After a few weeks of waiting, my MI3 strap literally just arrived. I wanted to go ahead and do a review of it even though I’m still waiting to take delivery of my 372…

The Gunny MI3 strap is part of the new “Mission Impossible” series, and I think you’ll agree that the vintage aging process that Peter puts the leather through is very convincing to say the least. The MI3 is the third strap in his Mission Impossible series, and in my opinion, it’s the best looking one to date.

The Gunny Straps MI series began when one of Peter’s clients sent him one piece of a genuine vintage Panerai strap and asked him to recreate the missing half. After a month of trial and error, Peter was able to reproduce a very authentic looking match for the original half, and has now launched a new series of straps based on that concept.

The Gunny MI3 strap is a bit darker than the MI1 and MI2, and it’s a great match in my opinion for the vintage-inspired PAM 372…

The MI3 strap is very soft and my first impressions are that this will be a strap which will hold up very well over time. It features a matching stitch, 2 keepers, a flat GPF-style buckle, and raw, unfinished edges. The MI3 is much beefier than my 74 Serie due to the fact that there is an additional layer of leather sandwiched between the outer layers. This gives the MI3 a thicker, more substantial appearance which fits the Panerai 372′s chunky profile well. All of Peter Gunny’s straps are hand cut and hand sewn, and the Mission Impossible straps are made to order based on your individual sizing requirements.

Since Peter’s straps are entirely handcrafted and made to order, turnaround time on custom orders ranges from a week to 3-4 weeks, depending on both the strap (MI straps require much more labor) and his current backlog of orders. Peter is excellent when it comes to communication and he has always responded very quickly to my emails. The Panerai PAM 372 is, without a doubt, one of OP’s hottest watches at the moment. A modern-day 47mm base Luminor has long been described by many a Paneristi as the ultimate grail, and the Panerai 372 does not disappoint.

At 47mm, the PAM372 is not a small watch. However, the unique design of the reworked case allows the 372 to sit more comfortably on the wrist than the PAM 127. The polished steel case features a 3mm thick plexi crystal and a see-through sapphire crystal display back, and water resistance is rated at 100 meters.

The Panerai 372 is powered by a hand wound, in-house Panerai P.3000 calibre movement which is 5.3mm thick and consists of 16 1/2 lignes, 3 day power reserve, two barrels, 21 jewels, and an Incabloc anti-shock device. Being a base, the only functions provided are hours and minutes.

The Panerai PAM 398 is one of Officine Panerai’s most beautiful SIHH 2012 offerings. Housed in a 47mm polished red gold Radiomir case, the PAM398 features a striking brown vintage-style dial with sub seconds at the 9 o’clock position.

The Panerai 398 is a special edition piece (100 units) that is powered by OP’s hand-wound OP XXVII calibre, base Minerva 16-17 movement. The gold hands and tobacco dial are protected by a 3.0mm thick plexiglas crystal, while the Minerva movement is visible through a sapphire crystal display back.

As with the PAM 399, the big disappointment with the PAM 398 is the water resistance rating of only 30 meters.

The Panerai PAM 424 is an interesting spin on the classic vintage stylings of the PAM 448 (a 500 unit special edition piece also announced at SIHH 2012) and PAM 249. Sharing the same California dial and housed in a 47mm stainless steel Radiomir case, the PAM424 sports a beautiful set of gold hands, a date window at 3 o’clock, and features the Panerai logo on the dial.

While the Panerai 424 is probably not going to be a huge hit with OP’s traditional fan base who passionately favor the “less is more” approach offered by Panerai’s classic base models, the PAM 424 is an interesting piece nonetheless. Powered by Officine Panerai’s hand-wound P.3000 calibre movement which features hours, minutes, date, two barrels, and a 3-day power reserve, the Panerai 424 is a continuation of OP’s departure from using ETA movements.

The PAM424′s black California dial is protected by a 2.8mm thick sapphire crystal, and the watch also features a sapphire crystal display back. Water resistance is rated at 100 meters.

The Panerai PAM 425 is another one of this year’s SIHH 2012 winners. Very similar to the PAM 449 special edition that was just announced, the PAM 425 features a clean, vintage-styled dial and is housed in a 47mm stainless steel Radiomir case.

The PAM425 includes Officine Panerai’s P.3000 calibre hand-wound movement which has two barrels and features a 3-day power reserve. It is visible through a sapphire crystal display back, while the black dial and gold hands are protected by a 2.8mm thick sapphire crystal (unlike the PAM449′s plexi crystal and blue hands). The dial also features the Panerai “Pig” logo.

Water resistance of the Panerai 425 is rated at 100 meters.

The Panerai PAM 396 is another one of Officine Panerai’s new SIHH 2012 announcements. The PAM396 is a tourbillon model housed in a gorgeous 48mm black ceramic 1950 Luminor case.

The Panerai 396 is powered by a hand-wound Panerai P.2005/B calibre movement with 16 1/4 lignes, 31 jewels, Glucydur balance, and a KIF Parechoc anti-shock device. The movement also features 6 day power reserve, three barrels, skeletonized bridges, and measures 9.1mm in thickness. It produces 28,800 alternations per hour, and includes the following functions: small seconds, second time zone, hours, minutes, 24 hour indicator, power reserve indicator (on back), and tourbillon.

The PAM396 has a black dial with a 24 hour indicator at 3 o’clock, and a seconds and tourbillon indicator at 9 o’clock. The dial is protected by a beautiful domed sapphire crystal measuring 2mm thick and covered in an anti-reflective coating.

The Panerai 396′s movement is visible via a sapphire crystal display back, and the watch is water resistant to 100 meters.

The Panerai PAM 395 is a new offering just announced by Officine Panerai at SIHH 2012. Housed in a stunning 45mm polished red gold Radiomir case, the PAM395 GMT contains a handwound Panerai P.2002/10 calibre movement featuring skeletonized bridges. The following functions are included: 8 day linear power reserve indicator, hours, minutes seconds, 2nd time zone and 24 hour indicator, date, and seconds reset.

The Panerai 395′s beautiful brown dial is shielded by a 1.2mm sapphire crystal and the well-executed movement can be seen through the see-through sapphire crystal display back. Water resistance is rated at 50 meters.

The Panerai PAM 399 is a new special edition piece that was announced by Officine Panerai at SIHH 2012. Housed in OP’s new 47mm stainless steel Radiomir case, the PAM339 is powered by the handwound Panerai OP XXVII calibre, base Minerva 16-17 movement with hours, minutes, and small seconds functions.

The Panerai 399 also features a 3.0mm plexiglas crystal, and a see-through sapphire crystal display back. While it’s certainly a beautiful offering by OP, we were definitely disappointment with the PAM339′s paltry water resistance rating of only 30 meters.

The Panerai PAM 448 is the second best offering by OP at SIHH 2012, in my opinion. I’ve always been a big fan of the PAM 249 Cali dial, and the addition of an in-house movement makes the special edition PAM448 a big winner.

The Panerai 448 is housed in a stainless steel 47mm Radiomir case with a dome plexi crystal covering the beautiful vintage-style California dial. Like this year’s other big winner, the Panerai PAM 449, the PAM448 features an in-house Panerai P.3000 calibre movement with a 3 day power reserve, beautiful blue hands, a 2.8mm plexiglas crystal, and a sapphire crystal display back. Water resistance is rated at 100 meters, and there will be a total of 500 pieces released.

In my opinion, the winner of this year’s Panerai SIHH 2012 lineup is the Panerai PAM 449. The drop dead gorgeous Panerai 449 is a special edition piece, and there will be a total of 500 watches released.

The PAM449′s is housed in a 47mm stainless steel Radiomir case, and it’s fitted with a 2.8mm plexiglas crystal. The handwound in-house Panerai P.3000 calibre movement provides hour and minute functions as well as a 3 day power reserve, and is protected by a see-through sapphire crystal display back.

The Panerai PAM 449 is water resistant to 100 meters.

The impressive 47mm Panerai PAM 331 GMT tourbillon was just announced by Officine Panerai at SIHH 2009. This titanium model features a black dial, a black alligator strap, and the gorgeous 1950 Luminor case.

The PAM331 is equipped with Officine Panerai’s P.2005 calibre hand-wound mechanical movement, measuring 9.1mm thick. The P.2005 is an in-house movement that features 31 jewels, 16 1/4 lignes, 3 spring barrels, KIF Parechoc anti-shock protection, Glucydur balance, and a 6 day power reserve. It produces 28,800 alternations per hour.

The functions supported by the PAM 00331 include hours, minutes, seconds, tourbillon, 24 hour indicator, second time zone (GMT), and a power reserve indictator displayed on the back of the watch.

Panerai used sapphire crystal to cover both the dial and the see-through display back. The Panerai PAM 331 is water resistant to 100 meters.

The stunning Panerai PAM 330 GMT tourbillon is a new addition for 2009 to Officine Panerai’s Manifattura lineup. The massive 48mm 18ct pink gold Radiomir case is beautifully paired with a tobacco dial and brown alligator strap.

Panerai equipped the PAM330 with their P.2005 calibre hand-wound movement. The movement is 9.1mm thick and features 31 jewels, 16 1/4 lignes, three barrels, KIF Parechoc anti-shock protection, a 6 day power reserve, and Glucydur balance. It produces 28,800 alternations per hour (4Hz).

The Panerai PAM 330 proudly displays the amazing movement via a see-through sapphire crystal caseback. The dial is also protected by sapphire crystal, measuring 1.9mm thick and coated with an anti-reflective treatment.

The PAM 00330 is water resistant to 100 meters.

The Panerai PAM 328 is a new piece added to Officine Panerai’s Manifattura collection for 2009. The PAM328 is a stainless steel bracelet model that is housed in a 44mm 1950 Luminor case.

Panerai used their in-house P.9000 calibre automatic movement in the PAM 00328. This movement is made up of 195 components and features 28 jewels, 13 3/4 lignes, Incabloc anti-shock protection, Glucydur balance, two barrels, power reserve of 3 days, and produces 28,800 alternations per hour.

A sapphire crystal see-through back displays the in-house movement and the dial is covered by 2.6mm thick sapphire crystal that has been treated with an anti-reflective coating.

The Panerai PAM 328 is water resistant to 300 meters.

The Panerai PAM 312, released at SIHH ’09, is a stainless steel model housed in a 44mm 1950 Luminor case. The watch features a clean, black dial and black alligator strap with a brushed steel buckle.

The PAM312 is a continuation of Officine Panerai’s shift to all in-house movements, and makes use of the P.9000 calibre automatic movement. The P.9000 produces 28,800 alternations per hour and features 195 components, 28 jewels, 13 3/4 lignes, a 3 day power reserve, Incabloc anti-shock device, Glucydur balance, and two barrels. The movement is visible through the see-through crystal display back.

The PAM00312 tracks hours, minutes, small seconds, and date, and the sapphire crystal covering the dial is 2.6mm thick and treated with anti-reflective coating.

The Panerai PAM 312 is water resistant to 300 meters and made of AISI 316L steel.

The Panerai PAM 305 is the latest submersible added to Officine Panerai’s lineup. The PAM305 is a 47mm sub in a titanium 1950 style Luminor case.

The Panerai PAM305 is powered by OP’s P.9000 calibre movement, one which is produced entirely in-house. The 7.9mm thick movement produces 28,800 alternations per hour and features 195 different components, 28 jewels, two barrels, 13 3/4 lignes, a 3 day power reserve, Incabloc anti-shock device, and Glucydur balance.

The brushed titanium bezel features polished edges, and rotates anti-clockwise allowing the diver’s time of immersion to be timed.

The PAM 00305′s see-through display caseback is made of scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, and the anti-reflective crystal covering the dial is treated with an anti-reflective coating.

The Panerai PAM 305 sub is water resistant to 300 meters and includes a rubber strap with large titanium brushed buckle, a strap change tool with steel screwdriver, and a second interchangeable strap.

The Panerai PAM 320 is new to the OP Manifattura lineup, as of SIHH ’09. The PAM320 is a stainless steel model featuring the 1950 style Luminor case, a black dial, and a brown alligator strap with stainless steel buckle.

The automatic Panerai P.9001 calibre movement powers the PAM320 at 28,800 alternations per hour. The movement consists of 29 jewels, 227 different components, 13 3/4 lignes, Glucydur balance, Incabloc anti-shock protection, two barrels, and a 3 day power reserve.

The PAM00320′s black dial displays hours, minutes, small seconds, date, and a second time zone (GMT). Other functions include seconds reset and a power reserve indicator located on the back of the watch.

The AISI 316L brushed steel case is sealed by a see-through sapphire crystal display back on the rear or the watch, and a 2.6mm thick, anti-reflective sapphire crystal over the dial.

The Panerai PAM 320 includes a beautiful brown alligator strap with a brushed steel buckle, and is water resistant to 300 meters.

Another new 2009 SIHH addition for OP, the Panerai PAM 329 is a stainless steel bracelet model housed in a 44mm 1950 Luminor case. It features a black dial and GMT function.

Officine Panerai used their P.9001 calibre movement in the PAM329. The movement produces 28,800 alternations per hour, 29 jewels, 13 3/4 lignes, two barrels, Glucydur balance, Incabloc anti-shock device, and a power reserve of 3 days. It is produced entirely in-house by Panerai and contains 227 components.

The PAM00329 displays the following functions:

• Power reserve indicator (located on the back of the watch, thankfully)
• Second time zone (GMT)
• Date

The Panerai PAM 329 features a sapphire crystal see-through display back, and a 2.6mm, anti-reflective version over the dial. The watch is water resistant to 300 meters.

The Panerai PAM 321 is a new addition to Officine Panerai’s Manifattura lineup, as announced at SIHH today. The PAM321 (Luminor 1950 3 Days GMT Power Reserve Automatic) is housed in a 44mm 1950 Luminor case and features a black dial.

Panerai decided to incorporate their new P.9002 calibre automatic movement in the PAM00321, an in-house movement executed entirely by Panerai that consists of 29 jewels, 13 3/4 lignes, Incabloc anti-shock protection, Glucydur balance, a 3 day power reserve, and two barrels. The P.9002 calibre is made of 236 components and produces 28,800 alternations per hour.

As far as functions go, the PAM 321 includes the following: Hours, minutes, small seconds, seconds reset, second time zone (GMT), date, and power reserve indicator.

The see through display back is crafted from sapphire crystal, as is the 2.6mm thick, anti-reflective glass over the dial.

The Panerai PAM 321 is water resistant to 300 meters and includes a black alligator strap with brushed steel buckle.

The Panerai PAM 319 Luminor 1950 8 Days Rattrapante is a new addition to OP’s 2009 Manifattura lineup. This stunning piece pairs a 47mm 18ct. pink gold 1950 Luminor case with a beautiful tobacco dial.

Panerai used their P.2006/3 calibre hand wound movement in the PAM00319, featuring 34 jewels, three barrels, 13 3/4 lignes, an 8 day power reserve with linear indicator (placed on the dial), Glucydur balance, and KIF Parechoc anti-shock protection. The movement is made up of 356 components and produces 28,800 alternations per hour.

Panerai provided the following functions with the PAM319:

• Split seconds chronograph with two counters

The gorgeous domed sapphire crystal measures 2mm thick and is treated with an anti-reflective coating. Sapphire crystal is also used for the see-through display caseback.
